"The third annual Rocky Mountain Conservative Convention in Heber was a huge success. Hosted by Greg Peterson and sponsored by
Smartstocks.com, the convention drew 224 attendants and the BBQ about 50.
Some notable people in attendance: Mike Lee, Mia Love(impressive considering she had just had oral surgery the day prior), Dan Lilljenquist, and Matt Kibbe of Freedomworks. Several other important candidates and political figures were present.
A few prominent individuals were unable to attend and instead opted to send pre-recorded videos. Among these were AZ gov. Jan Brewer and Senator Orrin Hatch.
The straw poll results indicated that 91% of voters in attendance prefer Dan Lilljenquist to Senator Orrin Hatch, and 62% of voters in attendance prefer Sean Reyes to John Swallow for Attorney General. Similarly 83% of voters in attendance prefer John Dougall to incumbent Austin Johnson in the race for State Auditor.
The poll also included 2 prediction questions in which 88% of voters in attendance indicated they expect Romney to prevail over Obama, and 92% expect Mia Love to oust Mattheson.
Members of the BYU college republican club were among the volunteers at the event, including Scott Nielson, a former BYUCR Vice President.
This event drew local press coverage do to the heated debate between John Swallow and Sean Reyes. It even garnered national attention on CNN, when McKay Christensen began a hunger strike and vowed the BBQ would be his last meal until there is a prime-time live televised debate between Senator Hatch and Dan Lilljenquist.
Given the success of this convention and BBQ it will likely remain a part of conservative politics for years."
